Improving production technology of ornamental plants grown under covering
Improving production technology of ornamental plants grown under covering. Elaboration of technology of producing ornamental plants with low-heating requirement in greenhouses is an important target in Poland because of very cold winter and high cost of heating. Presently roses, gerberas and anthurium are produced and all sorts of ornamental plants for outdoor planting at the spring time. Experiments are carried out to introduce new species into greenhouse production. Integrative methods of ornamental plant production are also introduced to avoid soil degradation and water and air pollution. Optimalisation of temperature, CO2 concentration and mineral content of substrate is the next important target for the research team.
In Poland there exist around 30 laboratories producing in vitro plants. Our Institute elaborates methods of propagation and raising new plant species, especially ornamental perennials and shrubs. The results are accessible to all laboratories.
Much attantion is paid to search physiological processes in storage seeds and their germination. This knowledge is very useful in seed preservation in magazines and bonus of gene resources.
