SEED SCIENCE GROUP

Staff: Prof. Dr. Mieczyslaw GRZESIK (mgrzesik@insad.pl), Dr Krzysztof GÓRNIK (kgornik@insad.pl), Dr Agnieszka KARSZNICKA (akarsz@insad.pl),  Bogumila BADEK M.Sc. (bbadek@insad.pl),  Dorota KLECZKO M.Sc. (dklecz@insad.pl),  Ewa Chojnowska M.Sc., Barbara MIKA Ing.

Research concerns theoretical and practical aspects of:

  • development of methodology and markers for control of seed germination, ageing, vigour and conditioning
  • improvement of seed germination and plant development by seed osmopriming, matriconditioning, drum-priming, hydropriming and presowing treatments with temperature, scarification, freezing, chilling, growth regulators, biostimulators, antioxidants and other chemicals
  • storage of seeds at different temperature, humidity and after treatment with chemicals
  • role of free radicals and enzymatic or non-enzymatic antioxidants in the seed aging and improvement of their quality
  • improvement of seed yield and quality by treatments with biostimulators and other non toxic chemicals that increase and accelerate plant development, flowering, pollination and seed maturation
  • use of germination and higher plants as bioindicators for monitoring of environmental toxic pollution
  • induction of stress tolerance by using of ecological methods

BULBOUS PLANTS GROUP

Staff: Dr Dariusz SOCHACKI(dsochack@insad.pl), Irena CHE?MI?SKA, Dariusz MAJ.

  • protection of genetic resources of ornamental plants (field collections of tulips, narcissus, lilies and roses)
  • improving of production technology of bulbous plants (micropropagation and virus testing of narcissus, evaluation of quality of forced tulip flowers according to environment of bulbs production and kind of forcing medium)

Research is supported by the State Committee for Scientific Research in Poland and by seed companies. It is conducted under bilateral cooperation with Polish and several foreign laboratories, e.g. in France and the Netherlands. Every year the scientific trainings for Polish and foreign students are conducted.
