In vitro culture
In vitro culture and biotechnology are the research brands fast developing in our Institute. In vitro biological indexing of plant material has been elaborated for Fruit Tree Quarantine system. Molecular markers for identification of fruit crop species and cultivars as well as markers of disease resistance are being developed.
Much effort is devoted to production of transgenic fruit plants. Plum cultivars are transformed with a plum pox coat protein gene in order to get plum resistant to plum pox. Research is carried on production of transgenic strawberry with uniform fruit ripening and prolonged fruit shelf life.
A method in vitro has been developed for testing of strawberry resistance to soil-born-pathogens and now it is used for selection of somaclonal variants resistant to Verticillium dahliae.
A new technology of micropropagation of pomological plants, including in vitro propagation and ex vitro rooting and acclimatisation has been developed.
