conducts research on obtaining and maintaining of virus -free cultivars of fruit trees and small fruits (in cooperation with Department of Breeding, Cultivar Trials, Orchard and Nursery Management and Small Fruits Culture); studies on apples chlorotic leaf spot strains isolated from apples, pears, plums and cherries; elaboration of the most effective methods to detect plum pox virus in plum, peach and apricot trees (comparison of ELISA and other PCR; In vitro biological indexing in Fruit Tree Quarantine System (in cooperation with Dr. Shmuel Zilkah, Israel). SECTION OF FRUIT STORAGE

Quality of apples in relation to storage conditions (temperature, CO2, and 02 concentrations); quality of apples in relation to picking time maturity and storage conditions; ethylene biosynthesis and aroma evolution during ripening of apples; effectiveness of calcium compounds applied against storage disorders and diseases of apples.
